Birdsongs, Vol 3 - Sounds Of The Great Salt Lake CD

Vol 3 is the third album in this collaborative series from Micky Torpedo, Jennifer Kuroda and Sinnissippi Audubon. It highlights bird species threatened by the quickly disappearing Great Salt Lake in Utah.

After many years of low rain and snowfall due to water diversions and climate change, the Great Salt Lake is facing a pending ecological collapse. In a 2023 BYU report, scientists predict the lake will be gone by 2028 without human intervention. In recent years, the lake has lost 75% of its volume and two thirds of its surface area. Once completely dry, the lake will be replaced with an apocalyptic dust bowl of arsenic, mercury and other harmful minerals. This will directly impact the approximately 10 million migratory birds who seek refuge in the wetlands, along with with all the other species and human inhabitants that rely on this ecosystem.
